Iain Clark is attracting much media attention and artistic recognition for his unique portraits of celebrities. The fact that many of these celebrities are also his friends has meant he has been able to adopt a more relaxed and intimate approach than is usual with celebrity portraits. Such an approach has borne fruit. Two of his portraits have gone into the permanent collection of the Scottish National Portrait Gallery. His portrait of Muriel Grey formed the centrepiece of the 'Thoroughly Modern Woman' exhibition & was chosen as the advertising poster for that exhibition. His portrait of native Scot, & Hollywood legend, Brian Cox was unveiled by the distinguished actor himself in front of the press in July 2006, to coincide with his 60th birthday celebrations. At a recent high profile Charity Ball a portrait sitting donated by Iain fetched £10, 000.00 for children's charities CLIC Sargent, & CHAS. One of his portraits was featured in the Edinburgh Festival exhibition 'Performance' at the French Institute. He has just completed a series of 25 portraits of Scottish writers & poets for an exhibition 'Inspired' to be exhibited in Aberdeen from 10 th of May until June 2nd as part of the Six Cities design festival which will then tour to his major solo exhibition 'CAPTURE' at the Collins Gallery, Strathclyde University in his hometown of Glasgow 25th Aug – 29 Sept 2007. Iain Clark's background shows him as a true art insider. He is a well-known figure on the Scottish art scene he has owned and run art galleries in the centre of Glasgow and in its west end for over a decade. He has promoted the interests of many well-known Scottish artists and has staged major art shows within Scotland. He has an intimate knowledge of Scottish art both past and present having successfully sourced quality Scottish paintings of all kinds for clients over many years. He has numerous friends, acquaintances, and contacts in the Scottish art world. Iain is also an art critic, book reviewer, and author. He has written for Scottish Field, Scotland on Sunday, and Metro. It is, however, his passion for people that has led to his recent ascent as a much in demand portrait artist. "I am fascinated by the human condition and the huge variety of faces that I see every day. I believe that each and every one of us is unique & special. When I work on a portrait I strive to bring out something of the sitter's soul." |
